The Green Bay Packers are preparing for perhaps their toughest stretch of the 2018 NFL season. As a result, quarterback Aaron Rodgers could be looking to shed some unnecessary weight.

Rodgers has been sporting a bulky knee brace over the past several weeks since sustaining a knee injury. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, he is hoping the bye week will allow him to bypass having to wear the extra equipment:

Aaron Rodgers still hopes to play without the brace he's worn on his left knee since his Week 1 injury, but he couldn't say yet whether that will be the case in Week 8 — even after the benefit of a bye week. The Green Bay Packers quarterback is looking for any edge he can find entering what might be the toughest stretch of his NFL career.

Rodgers may be coming off a vintage performance against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6. However, it is clear that he still looks somewhat uncomfortable. Of course, this could be attributed to the lingering knee injury as well as the current state of their fluctuating offense. Regardless, it is clear that the brace is one less thing he would like to worry.

It is easy to see why given their upcoming schedule. Green Bay is kicking off a difficult two-game road stretch against the undefeated Los Angeles Rams. They will follow up that game with a marquee matchup against the New England Patriots. It seems Rodgers does not want to have anything holding him back over the next two games. Although Packers' fans would love to get a win streak going, just pulling out at least one win against either of these teams would help keep them in the mix atop the NFC North.
