When Matt LaFleur was hired as the Green Bay Packers new head coach earlier this month, he was shocked. So shocked, as a matter of fact, that ESPN's Adam Schefter knew the Packers hired him before LaFleur even did.

“Basically called the Packers head coach, Matt LaFleur the day he was hired,” Schefter said on HBO's Real Sports, per Zach Kruse of Packers Wire. “And I said, ‘Matt– just wanted to confirm you’re taking the Green Bay Packers head coaching job?’ And he said, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.' I said, ‘Have you gotten a call yet that you’ve been eliminated?’ And he said, ‘No.’ And I said, ‘Well, they’ve called everybody else and eliminated them. Congratulations. You’re the head coach of the Green Bay Packers.’”

Talk about an awesome way of finding out that you just landed an amazing job.

The 39-year-old, who said he was “speechless” when he discovered the Packers had chose him as their new head coach, spent the 2018 campaign as the offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans.

LaFleur earned his first NFL job, however, back in 2010, when he took over as quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins, a position he held through 2013 before taking the quarterbacks coaching job at Notre Dame.

After just one year at Notre Dame, LaFleur jumped back to the NFL, serving as quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons for two seasons. He then joined Sean McVay's staff with the Los Angeles Rams, becoming the Rams' offensive coordinator in 2017 before making the move to the Titans.
