In this day and age, if your last name is “Savage” and you're a professional athlete, people are going to want you to change your number to 21. Why? Rapper 21 Savage, who is undoubtedly on most people's workout mixes, has to be represented.

Quarterback Tom Savage didn't do (but he can't, as his position can't wear 21) but Green Bay Packers rookie safety Darnell Savage did.

Savage explained exactly why he changed from No. 26 to No. 21 on Monday. He said, per The Athletic's Matt Schneidman:

“I wasn't really feeling 26. I just wore 21 when I was younger so, and it's like a big thing because of 21 Savage so I thought that was pretty cool.”

Coincidentally, Savage was taken with the 21st pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Several players don their draft number, but Savage didn't think about then when asked if that took part in the number change.

“Now that you said that, I didn't even think about all that. I don't know. Maybe. Maybe there's a little irony there.”

We all know why you did it Darnell, and we don't blame you. Being able to don “21 Savage” on the jersey is something so few get the chance to do. Now, all that needs to be done is have 21 Savage come up to Green Bay and get a photo-op with Darnell.

From now on, expect to see hear “21 Savage” said whenever the safety makes a big play. It's only right for that to happen. His jersey should be a fan favorite in the hip hop community too.
