The Green Bay Packers aren't done tinkering with the wide receiver position. On Wednesday, the Pack signed wide-out Darrius Shepherd to their 10-man practice squad, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

The Packers released Shepherd, 23, on Tuesday. He had previously seemingly lost his role on the 53-man roster and struggled in both kick and punt-returning realms. On the season, he has a reception for one yard, a drop that led to an interception and a muffed punt return.

Shepherd, an undrafted rookie, joined the Packers after a try-out following his career at North Dakota State. He returned two punts for -9 yards and nine kickoffs for 147 yards during the first eight weeks of the season.

Shepherd was a standout during training camp.

“Shep, I really like Shep. I think he’s done a great job,” said coach Matt LaFleur on Aug. 7, per Zach Kruse of Packers Wire. “We’ve been featuring him mostly in the slot. He has some really good short-area quickness, he can separate, he can double up on guys, he can run those choice routes.”

You don’t see a lot of mental mistakes from him, and for a young player that’s pretty impressive,” LaFleur continued. “He comes in each and every day ready to work, he’s attentive in meetings, and he’s got the answers. I think he’s done a nice job.”

Shepherd undoubtedly made his fair share of mistakes for the Packers early on, but it appears Green Bay may see a promising “diamond in the rough” in the rookie.
