Green Bay Packers tackle David Bakhtiari is one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL. No one is going to argue that with you. In fact, the only thing that might argue that is his own contract.

Bakhtiari is currently signed to a four-year deal worth $48 million. While that's not chump change, it's not what a top-level tackle should be making – not even close.

The combination of his elite skills and not-so-elite contract have been brought to light. They were worthy enough to make Bakhtiari the “most underpaid veteran” on the Packers according to Danny Heifetz of The Ringer.

In the defense of the Green Bay Packers here, they signed Bakhtiari to this deal back in 2016. That was right before he put his game together perfectly.

However, they might want to raise that payday soon. If they wait for the contract to play out, Bakhtiari could be unhappy they never felt he deserved a raise. It would also obviously raise the risk of him walking over to a new team.

Offensive line is definitely a position you don't want to skimp on when it comes to handing out money. When you have an elite talent, you should pay him as much. If you don't you'll end up regretting it when you have a league-average guy there and you realize how much of a difference the elite player made.

David Bakhtiari hasn't complained about his contract yet. So that's definitely positive news for the Packers. However, they shouldn't wait for him to do that to pay him. His contract officially ends after the 2020 season, so there's still time to work something out. Sooner rather than later is what the focus should be on right now.
