There are a number of ongoing contract discussions set to possibly come to fruition this offseason. Among the most notable is that of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers could become the highest-paid quarterback in the league by next season. However, recent reports suggest that it will not happen anytime soon, via Adam Schefter of ESPN.

ESPN's Adam Schefter just said the Packers and Aaron Rodgers have had some discussions on a contract extension that would make him the highest paid QB, but a deal is far off. Said if a deal gets done, it'll get done shortly before the season.

Rodgers' looming contract extension has become a topic of discussion for some time now. It became evident his season that the Packers are a largely mediocre team with him. Needless to say, general manager Brian Gutekunst will have his hands full this offseason if Green Bay is to get back into championship contention.

The Packers will likely take a wait-and-see approach to giving Rodgers his lucrative contract. Green Bay has plenty of voids to fill this offseason, especially on the offensive side of the ball. There have even been rumors swirling about the team potentially parting ways with one of their veteran wideouts in order to clear up some more cap space to work with.

Regardless, keeping Rodgers happy with a long-term extension should be the focal point of their offseason. There is no denying that when healthy, he is perhaps the best quarterback in the NFL today.
