The Green Bay Packers fired long-time head coach Mike McCarthy after a disappointing 4-7-1 start this past season, but there have been many theories as to why he was actually fired.

Was it because the Packers were on the verge of missing the playoffs two years in a row?

Was it because McCarthy had just gone stale?

Was it because of the souring relationship between McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers?

Well, according to former Packers running back Ryan Grant and an unnamed personnel man, it was a combination of all of those things, which can all be summed up in one problem: McCarthy had problems adjusting.

“When you put a quarterback in a position and you talk about how cerebral he is and you give him flexibility to make some changes, guess what? … You develop A.I., because it has the capacity to run without you,” said Grant, according to Tyler Dunne of Bleacher Report. “And then when it runs without you, it's like, ‘Wait a minute!' But in the same breath, if you're not actually able to stay ahead of it, it's going to outthink you and it's going to say, ‘Me making the decision is the better decision.' … You live and die by his greatness.”

The personnel man was a bit harsher in his criticisms.

“It's like, ‘Dude, you have to adjust! The league changes!'” the personnel man says. “You've got to be humble enough to follow it. If you can't adapt, you die. He definitely didn't adapt. You can't run 90 back-shoulders into coverage. I don't care who you are. Things got so stale.”

Regardless of what the core issue is, the fact of the matter is that the Packers are now under the new leadership of Matt LaFleur.
