Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has spent the entirety of his NFL career under an offensive-minded head coach. Mike Sherman was the Packers' head coach in Rodgers' rookie season in 2005, and from 2006 until Week 13 this year Mike McCarthy was leading the way in Green Bay. But for the Packers to be successful going forward, wide receiver James Jones thinks the team needs to change up their thinking.

Speaking with Colin Cowherd of The Herd, Jones laid out why he thinks a defensive head coach would be the best fit for Rodgers.

“I said, I would love to see you with a defensive-minded coach. So he has the defense, he'll get you a top-10 defense, you communicate with your offensive coordinator and you guys put up points. But we have the defense, and that right there is what I think Aaron Rodgers needs.”

Cowherd brought up Ron Rivera, the current head coach of the Carolina Panthers, as a possible future target for the Packers. Jones countered with a different coach, and one that's currently unemployed.

“I want Rex Ryan… He's great at communicating with his players, he's a great defensive-minded coach, get Aaron an OC and let him put up points. I love it.”

Green Bay is currently 5-8-1 on the year, which means they'll finish below .500 for the second season in a row. That's the first time there have been back-to-back losing seasons in Green Bay since 1990-91, just before the Packers traded for Brett Favre. This season will be just the seventh time the Packers have missed the playoffs since 1993.
