After spending his entire NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, veteran wide receiver Jordy Nelson was released by the team that drafted him earlier this week. Fortunately, it didn't take long before Nelson found a new home in the league with the Oakland Raiders jumping at the opportunity to sign him.

Before the Packers released the one-time Super Bowl champion, Nelson was asked whether he'd take a pay cut. Apparently, this pay cut was so severe that his former teammate, James Jones, says it wasn't something that most would consider even though Nelson did just that, via Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“I’m not going to say what they offered him, but they really, really low-balled him,” Jones said. “It wasn’t even anything you would consider. Even with all that, he was still considering taking it.”

Although his time in Green Bay is over, Nelson is clearly valued by the Raiders. Oakland came to terms with Nelson on a two-year deal worth $15 million. That may not seem like much for a wideout that can still produce at a high level, but $13 million of his deal with the Raiders is guaranteed.

Nelson will have an opportunity to thrive with his new team as he'll be playing with a promising young quarterback in Derek Carr while also sharing the field with wideout Amari Cooper. The soon-to-be 33-year-old may quickly become the No. 1 option in the passing game for Oakland with the team recently parting ways with Michael Crabtree to make room for Nelson.

It remains to be seen whether the Raiders can be a force to be reckoned with like they were during the 2016 NFL season, but they've got the pieces and the right coaching to do so meaning Nelson might have another shot at winning a second Super Bowl title.
