While the Green Bay Packers await the status of Davante Adams, they will be getting another offensive weapon back on the field. According to Tom Silverstein, Green Bay is activating rookie tight end Jace Sternberger from injured reserve.

The Packers selected Sternberger with the 75th overall pick in this year's draft out of Texas A&M. Throughout training camp and the preseason, the coaching staff raved about his potential in the offense.

During the preseason, Sternberger only had one reception for two yards with the Packers. But that one reception came in the form of a touchdown for Sternberger.

However, in the team's preseason finale, the first-year tight end injured his ankle and was placed on injured reserve. Now, it appears as if he is ready to return to the field after missing the first eight weeks of the season. Even though, there's no guarantee that Sternberger suits up in Week 9 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

When Sternberger does return, it's hard to believe that the Packers don't try to get him involved in the offense. Therefore, Jimmy Graham could begin to share snaps with the rookie tight end as the season progresses.

With the Packers sitting at 7-1, there's no reason to rush Sternberger back from injury. While he's been out, Green Bay has shown that they can manage on offense without multiple weapons—including Adams.

Fortunately for the Packers, they won't need to release anyone to create a roster spot for Sternberger. It remains to be seen if Sternberger makes his debut in Week 9 but his presence will undoubtedly give Green Bay another wrinkle in their offense.
