Now that former New York Jets wide receiver Robby Anderson has signed with the Carolina Panthers, Demarcus Robinson might be the best wideout on the market, but the Green Bay Packers didn't pull the trigger on a deal.

Robinson started in 10 of 16 games with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, hauling in 32 receptions for 449 yards and four touchdowns and certifying himself as one of the top deep threats in football.

The 25-year-old is likely to have a number of different suitors on the market, and ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the Packers were among those suitors.

The Packers seemed to be looking for potential bargain pickups in the receiver market, but they might have to pay something extra if they still hope to sign Robinson. While Devin Funchess has struggled with injuries in recent years, Robinson is a young guy coming off the best season of his career. Plus, there are not a lot of quality receivers remaining in free agency.

Still, it might be wise for Green Bay to try to pursue Robinson as a means to add to their positional depth. Allen Lazard emerged as an interesting option, but Marquez Valdes-Scantling struggled with drops and Geronimo Allison was mostly disappointing.

Obviously, the Packers do not want to waste one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL in Aaron Rodgers. While the upcoming NFL draft is certainly deep at wide receiver, the Packers only figure to help Rodgers—and thus help themselves—by continuing to pursue more deep threats.

The Packers somewhat limited cap space, which could be the ultimate determinant depending on Robinson's market. In fact, it might have been the reason they did not sign him in the first place.

But if nothing else, it shows Green Bay was intent on giving Rodgers new weapons.
