After a surprising move that landed Aaron Jones back in Green Bay with the Packers, the details of his 4-year contract extension with Green Bay have finally come to the light.

Given the Packers lack of space in cap room, many thought it was a foregone conclusion that Jones would end up somewhere else. With the legal tampering hours fast approaching, Brian Gutekunst and the rest of the Packers braintrust were able to ink Jones to a 4-year extension to keep him in Green Bay. With the new details of the contract emerging, it appears to be a team friendly deal with multiple team options going forward.

It goes without saying but, Aaron Jones obviously knew what he signed up for here. Still it's a bit surprising to see that this was the final deal etched into stone.

To break it down in the most simplistic of ways, Aaron Jones will get PAID here in 2021, to the tune of $14.1 million which has a $13 million signing bonus attached to that number. After the 2021 season, the Packers hold team options for 2022, 2023, and 2024 with Jones' contract. For a deeper dive of the contract, look no further than here.

While damn near everyone in Green Bay wanted Jones back and rightfully so, when he was retained it brought into question the Packers taking A.J. Dillon, the running back out of Boston College, with a second round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Why draft a running back that early when you have a three down back in Aaron Jones who you plan on keeping around for the long haul? This contract gives the Packers flexibility if they so desire it.

The way the Packers have approached this free agency makes you wonder if they are going all in for one more push in 2021. The window could expand out, but they still haven't restructured Aaron Rodgers contract. Doing so would provide plenty of cap relief for this year but lock in Rodgers for years to come. With the Jones contract set up the way it is, 2021 becomes all the more important for the Green Bay Packers.
