The Green Bay Packers will begin their training camp on July 25th. Although, they could be doing so without Darnell Savage being on the field.

According to Ian Rapoport, Green Bay placed Savage on the non-football illness list. Even though, Rapoport said that Savage should return soon and the situation isn't expected to be serious.

The Packers selected Savage with the 21st overall pick (nickname 21 Savage?) in this year's draft. Green Bay is hoping for Savage to step into a starting safety spot in their defense.

Last season, the Packers began the year with HaHa Clinton-Dix at free safety. Clinton-Dix failed to consistently show his playmaking skills, so the Packers traded him to the Washington Redskins midway through 2018.

As a result, Green Bay ended up having to plug Tramon Williams in at free safety. Last season, the Packers owned the 12th ranked passing defense and could have an even better one in 2019.

This offseason, Green Bay signed Adrian Amos to bolster their secondary before drafting Savage as well. In college at Maryland, Savage showed his potential to be a phenomenal safety at the NFL level.

In his last three seasons in college, Savage had eight interceptions, 170 total tackles, and 13 pass deflections. Throughout the draft process, Savage was regarded as one of the best safeties in the NFL Draft.

With the addition of Amos and Savage, Green Bay is hoping to get more interceptions after getting just seven of them in 2018. Although, Packers fans may have to wait to see Amos and Savage on the field at the same time with Savage being placed on the non-football illness list.
