News has recently come up from the Green Bay Packers camp, with the team looking to move on from inside linebacker Antonio Morrison. The Associated Press got wind of the news that the Packers released the former Florida Gator on Friday.

Morrison was acquired by Green Bay in last year's offseason from the Indianapolis Colts. The 24-year-old Illinois native played all 16 games for the Packers and started in half of those contests, finishing with a career-low 47 tackles along with a solo sack – his one and only registered sack in three years in the NFL.

With recent reports that the Packers are actually not looking to acquire coveted free agent wide receiver Antonio Brown, the team can now remain focused on bolstering the one side of their roster that needs the most improvement: defense. They are pretty well-stacked in their front-seven lineup, but it's the their secondary that needs the most help. In turn, it stands to reason as for why the team wasn't hesitant on pulling the trigger on releasing Morrison being one of their relatively weaker links on the roster.

Green Bay will continue its search for key pieces in the secondary, primarily at safety. With a wealth of big-name free agents in the market at that position (Earl Thomas, Landon Collins, and Tyrann Mathieu just to name a few) and about $35 million in cap space to work with not counting the $2 million they save from releasing Morrison, the Packers could very well see their defense improve significantly before the start of training camp.

The team should act quick before the well dries up, though, as another big name free agent safety has been nabbed by another NFC playoff contender, given the recent news of Eric Weddle's eventual signing with the Los Angeles Rams.
