The profound public clamor that was seen in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd made the case seem like the last straw of police brutality in America. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Jacob Blake, another Black man, was recently shot in the back seven times at point-blank range by the police while getting into a car in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The state's local NFL team in the Green Bay Packers issued their statement regarding the incident:

“The Packers organization was shocked to see the video that showed police shooting Jacob Blake multiple times in the back,” the Packers said. “We are hopeful Jacob makes a full recovery, and our thoughts are with his family.

“While we understand a full investigation of this terrible incident will take place, we are deeply troubled at what again has become a painful example of the significant challenges we face with respect to police brutality, systemic racism, and injustices against Black people. We continue to call for meaningful dialogue to affect the needed change we all desire.”

The shooting of Blake happened while three of his young children, ages 3, 5, and 8, were all inside the car. The 29-year old man was eventually rushed to a hospital in Milwaukee and is now in stable condition recovering in an intensive care unit. After the incident, protesters broke windows and sprayed graffiti, torched vehicles, and lit a courthouse on fire to show dismay over the situation.

Athletes across all sports continue to use their voice and platform to spread awareness about the wrong things happening in the American society. We can only hope that the cases of police brutality and racism issues will already be alleviated moving forward.
