The Green Bay Packers are not coddling their handling of second-year quarterback Jordan Love wth Aaron Rodgers missing from mandatory minicamp.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was asked whether he and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett had Love operate under a slightly lesser playbook in camp. LaFleur, however, essentially said Love was being treated as though he were the starter:

“No, we installed our offense and kind of threw everything at him,” LaFleur said Thursday, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Love had a bit of a tumultuous camp full of ups and downs. He struggled in Day 1 on Tuesday, only to put on a clinic Wednesday afternoon. However, the young Packers signal-caller had more issues in the final day of minicamp, with Demovsky noting he threw a poor interception and fumbled, though he did throw two touchdowns in red zone drills.

LaFleur said the Packers are doing what they can to get the former Utah State standout as much work as possible:

“He’s a guy who hasn’t had the experience as some others,” LaFleur said, via Demovsky. “We’ve got to get him multiple looks at many different plays and really find out what he does best and what our team does because every year things change in the National Football League.”

The Packers head coach also said he felt the coaching staff got a good gauge of Love's work ethic and also said the 2020 first-round pick made “progress.”

It's no surprise the Packers would want to get Love up to speed as quickly as possible. There is no telling whether Aaron Rodgers intends to play in Green Bay this season. LaFleur and Co. need to be prepared for all possibilities.
