The Green Bay Packers are set to interview interim head coach Joe Philbin on Wednesday or Thursday as they look to fill their coaching vacancy.

Philbin took over following the team's decision to fire former head coach Mike McCarthy after a Week 13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

The Packers finished 6-9-1 overall on the season, with Philbin going 2-2 during his run as the interim coach.

Now, it appears that he'll have his official interview for the job this week, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky:

Interim coach Joe Philbin's official interview is today or tomorrow before the Packers hit the road to talk to candidates Josh McDaniels, Brian Flores; Dan Campbell and Matt LaFleur.

It was inevitable that Philbin would get a look for the permanent position, and at this point, it's going to be very interesting to watch how this search unfolds.

The Green Bay is undoubtedly one of the best – if not the best – job available in the NFL right now. That's going to attract a lot of interested candidates, as will the fact that Aaron Rodgers is currently the team's quarterback.

With a lot of talented player on the roster, this isn't a situation where the franchise needs to go into a total rebuild to be successful.

There are a lot of quality pieces in place, and while some necessary tweaks need to be made, the Packers aren't far off from being a Super Bowl contender once again.

That makes this coaching hire one of the most important in the franchise's history, especially with Rodgers still on the roster.
