Green Bay Packers tight end Jace Sternberger didn't record a catch in the regular season, but the team still has high hopes for his future. Sternberger lined up as an h-back, full back, and tight end as a rookie and general manager Brian Gutekunst thinks he is going to be a matchup problem going forward.

“The flexibility he gives us. Obviously, he has a lot of speed, he can stretch the seam, he’s a matchup problem for linebackers and safeties. Matt put him in the backfield, moved him around a little bit,” Gutekunst said via Packers Wire. “Jace can be one of those guys, as he develops, he can play a lot of different places and be a matchup problem. Excited for him, excited that he gained a little bit of confidence at the end of the season that will hopefully be a push going into next year.”

During the postseason, he played an even bigger role, playing 39 snaps through the two games catching three passes for 15 yards and a touchdown. Not many had heard of Sternberger before the postseason, but Gutekunst wasn't surprised because he saw him during practice every day.

“At practice, continually he was making plays and becoming a problem for the defense,” Gutekunst said.

Sternberger should be in line for a big role during the 2020 season. Marcedes Lewis is an unrestricted free agent and Jimmy Graham could be cut to save some cap space. If both those guys are done, Sternberger is going to be counted on to have a big role.
