It remains to be seen whether the Kansas City Chiefs will trade Dee Ford. If Andy Reid's team ends up dealing the franchise-tagged pass-rusher, though, one team that will supposedly have been in the running for his services is the Green Bay Packers.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reported on Monday that the Packers and San Francisco 49ers are both interested in acquiring Ford, but will take a wait-and-see approach to engaging Kansas City in trade discussions as the market sets itself after the opening days of free agency. The Chiefs are reportedly looking for a second-round pick in exchange for the 27-year-old, too.

“From what I’m hearing, he would go for a second-round pick,” Breer writes of Ford. “The Packers and Niners remain in the mix, but both want to wait until after the first wave of free agency is complete, so they can take a look at pass rushers there, before getting more serious on the Chiefs star.”

Kansas City, as expected, placed the franchise tag on Ford last week. He will make $15.4 million if he plays on the tag next season, and has until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement with the Chiefs.

The five-year pro was named a Pro Bowler for the first time after a breakout 2018 campaign. Ford had 13 sacks last season, second on the Chiefs and tied for seventh-most in the league. He also generated 77 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus, more than any other edge rusher in football.

Ford, obviously, is a very gifted player, with rare speed and explosion and improvement at the point of attack in the running game. He's a questionable fit in new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's 4-3 scheme, though, leading some to suggest Kansas City would be better off selling high on him now than forcing a square peg into a round hole.
