The Green Bay Packers released second-year punter Justin Vogel after they took JK Scott in the fifth round of last week's NFL Draft.

According to Rob Demorsky of ESPN, Vogel actually asked for his release knowing he would enter the camp as the big underdog to make the team.

Vogel was a really good punter last year for the Packers and actually set the franchise record for net punting. He was also named an alternate for the Pro Bowl. After enjoying a nice college career with the Miami Hurricanes, he caught on with the Packers. He tallied 71 punts for a net average of 41.6 yards while also downing 19 inside the 20-yard line with a long of 62 yards.

There is a very good chance that Vogel gets picked up on the waiver wire and it wouldn't be shocking at all if he is the starting punter for some team next year.

For JK Scott, he won't have much of a competition to win the starting job now and the only way he would lose his job is if he has a terrible training camp, and even that might not be enough for him to lose his job.

Scott is one of the best punters to ever come out of Alabama and Packers GM Brian Gutekunst called him a rare talent.

At Alabama, he was twice named first-team All-SEC Punter and as a Freshman, he was named an All American. He was also a two time National Champion with the Crimson Tide.
