Matt LaFleur has been hired as the new head coach for the Green Bay Packers after an extensive search that included quite a few highly qualified candidates. The weird part of the move is how quickly the Packers seemed to make the decision. After reports broke that the Packers were considering who they wanted to bring back for second interviews, the team made their decision rather abruptly.

According to a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Packers' pursuit of LaFleur accelerated “dramatically” on Monday. He ended up being hired on Monday evening.

As one league source explained it, things happened very quickly on Monday afternoon, and it’s not entirely clear why. Some have suggested that the Packers feared losing LaFleur to another team. Per another league source, however, no other team formally requested permission from the Titans to interview LaFleur.

That seems like a bit of a strange report, but the Packers obviously got their guy. Clutch Points has previously reported that Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay may have lobbied the Packers to hire LaFleur. He is close friends with the new head man in Green Bay.

Green Bay is hoping that LaFleur can bring a similar offensive impact to the one that McVay took to Los Angeles. Aaron Rodgers has been stuck in a mediocre offense for too long. His struggles with Mike McCarthy were well-documented and the Packers are hoping that LaFleur and Rodgers can become a closer duo than McCarthy was.

Needless to say, it is going to be entertaining to watch the new offense in Green Bay. LaFleur is going to run a much more up-tempo offense and there are going to be more creative designs.

All of that being said, the Packers' fan base can only hope that the team did not make a mistake with this hire. LaFleur certainly looks the part of a good head coach, but rushing the decision a bit has made some fans nervous.
