For the first time in quite a while, the Green Bay Packers are set to have a new defensive system in place this upcoming season with defensive coordinator Mike Pettine now running the show. It'll be a notable change for Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who has been used to Dom Capers' system ever since coming into the league five years ago.

But while he’s just begun to learn the new playbook, Clinton-Dix is already liking what he’s seen from it thus far.

“I’ll give you two words – likable and learnable,” said Clinton-Dix per Wes Hodkiewicz of the team’s official website.

“I’m excited about this playbook and I look forward to learning as much as I can and maximizing my opportunity.”

Aside from Aaron Rodgers’ unfortunate collarbone injury, the Packers’ inconsistent defense was one of the big reasons for the team’s disappointing season. But even before last year, it had already shown signs of stagnation under Capers and needed a change.

Enter Pettine, who is back in the league after a couple years away following his dismissal as head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Pettine has a strong track record as a defensive coordinator as he crafted a top 10 defense for five straight years with the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills.

Clinton-Dix will be one of the main pieces of that new defense. Although just 25, he’s currently the most experienced safety the Packers have after the team lost Morgan Burnett in free agency.

Clinton-Dix’s initial impressions about the new defense bode well for the Packers. It’s crucial not only because one of the team’s top defenders has bought in, but also because it should be relatively simple for the team’s other young defensive backs to grasp.
