Veteran guard Jahri Evans performed well for the Green Bay Packers after he signed for them on a one-year deal last offseason to replace the departed T.J. Lang. The 34-year-old is still a free agent and apparently wants to play another year. But while he is in no rush to commit his future to any team, he is very much open to returning to Green Bay next season.

“I’m not opposed to coming back to Green Bay,” Evans said per Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com. “I loved my last year in Green Bay. Green Bay was great. I loved the coaching staff, I loved the locker room. I loved the organization, the community. It was awesome. It was a great fit for me.”

Evans, a six-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All-Pro during his time with the New Orleans Saints, was among the Packers’ most consistent offensive linemen last season. He started 14 games and played through some injuries later in the year. But when the Packers fell off from playoff contention, he opted to sit out the final two games.

The Packers do have a couple of prospective options to take Evans’ spot at right guard in Justin McCray and Lucas Patrick. They could also explore the possibility of picking up another offensive lineman in the draft. They will likely resort to re-signing Evans only if all of those other options fail to prove themselves as capable starters.

Of course, that is if Evans is still available by then. After he showed last season that he still has a lot left in the tank, there should be at least some teams in need of help at guard who will be eager to bring him in.
