Green Bay Packers running back Jamaal Williams was thrust into a lead role in Week 15 amidst the injury to running back Aaron Jones. It appears things will remain as such versus the New York Jets.

Williams has been dealing with a toe injury this week. Regardless, he is expected to get plenty of work on Sunday, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky:

Jamaal Williams is the injury report with a new injury (toe), which could be a concern after Aaron Jones went to IR, but Joe Philbin said: I thought he had a good day of practice yesterday (and) he's going to be a big part of the game plan on Sunday.”

The update should come as no surprise. Jones suffered a knee injury versus the Chicago Bears last week and has since been placed on IR. Green Bay will now look to carry the workload to finish out the season.

Williams has largely played a complementary role in the backfield this season. He did a serviceable job taking over last week after registering 97 total yards and a touchdown on 12 carries against a formidable Bears defense. He will have a much more favorable matchup against a Jets defense that has allowed touchdowns to running backs in four of their last five games.

The Packers will need to do everything they can to ensure Williams' status for Sunday is confirmed. His only competition for carries at the moment is running back Kapri Bibbs, which Green Bay recently just added off waivers.

Although this season has been a disappointment, Williams has a chance to end his year on a high note from an individual standpoint.
