This was set to be a huge preseason for Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. With Aaron Rodgers back in the mix for the 2021 season but his future with the team beyond that unknown, this was the chance for Green Bay's front office to get an extended look out of their first round pick from the 2020 NFL Draft.

On Thursday, Matt LaFleur updated Love's injury status after he sustained a shoulder injury in the Packers' preseason opener.

With Rodgers not expected to play at all in the preseason, it would leave Kurt Benkert as the starter for the Packers against the New York Jets on Saturday. LaFleur insinuated that Benkert would be more than ready for the opportunity.

“Yeah. I think so. We have a lot of confidence in him. He's been in the league for awhile.”

It's certainly not a good sign for Love that he will miss a preseason game as it shines a light on to the injury perhaps being more than just a ding. It's also likely that the Packers are exercising extreme caution with the situation despite wanting to see Love get out and sling the rock.

The selection of Love caused some chaos as it left Rodgers wondering if he would be on his way out. After winning the MVP last year, the Packers would've been silly to do anything outside of rolling out the red carpet for No. 12 to come back this year. After an offseason fiasco, he's back. But Green Bay won't be getting that sneak peak of Love's arm this weekend.
