The Green Back Packers are already down Aaron Rodgers. The team can't really afford any other talented players missing games. And yet, here we are, with tight end Martellus Bennett considered doubtful for Green Bay's Monday Night Football game.

Bennett didn't practice at all last week. Him being listed as doubtful heading into Monday night isn't exactly a shocker. However, given the context of some of his recent comments, this becomes a relatively sad situation.

Recently, Martellus Bennett took to social media to discuss this potentially being his last season playing in the NFL.

“After conversations with my family I’m pretty sure these next 8 games will be the conclusion of my NFL career. To everyone who has poured themselves and time into my life and career. These next games are for you. Thank you.”

If the talented tight end does still intend to retire, he will now be short one of those last few games.

Since Bennett's potential retirement has become public, reporters have been doing their best to ask him some followup questions. However, he has maintained he doesn't really have anything to add to the initial sentiment.

All of that being said, with Rodgers gone for the season (barring this miracle), Bennett is in a weird position. He knows the Packers have zero realistic shot at making the playoffs, making a return seem pointless, but if he never plans to play beyond this season, he might return just to play a few more games before saying goodbye to the sport forever.
