Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was likely hoping to get a player in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft that would help him lead his squad to the Super Bowl in the upcoming season. Instead, he got his heir apparent in Utah State quarterback Jordan Love.

Not only did the Packers select a quarterback, but they also traded up in the first round to get one. In the wake of that decision, head coach Matt LaFleur discussed how he expects the relationship between Rodgers and Love to go.

“I can’t say enough about his leadership, his value, his importance to this football team,” LaFleur said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. “He is the one that leads us out there. I know he’s going to be a great mentor, and I’m excited to get back to work with all these guys.”

The mentor-mentee relationship is a familiar one for Rodgers, albeit with the roles reversed. Green Bay selected Rodgers with the 24th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, just to have him sit behind Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre for three seasons. Now, the Packers have selected Love with the 26th overall pick, although how long he sits behind the 36-year-old Rodgers remains to be seen.

It's unlikely that Love pushes Rodgers for starting duties anytime soon, but how all sides handle the situation moving forward will likely play a factor in Green Bay's immediate Super Bowl aspirations. If LaFleur's first comments on the matter are any indication, he foresees no issues.
