A few hours before the Green Bay Packers offered Matt LaFleur their head coaching job he received a call from Aaron Rodgers the former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator revealed on Wednesday.

“That's kind of how I had an idea that maybe I was in the running for it,” LaFleur said via ESPN.

It makes sense that Rodgers would call LaFleur before he was offered the job because it's important that the most important guy on the team has a good relationship with the coach. It was clear towards the end of Mike McCarthy's time in Green Bay that the two weren't seeing eye to eye and it had a very negative effect on the team.

LaFleur said he was encouraged by the conversation with Rodgers and can tell how important winning is to him.

“The conversation went great,” LaFleur said. “I can tell he's a passionate guy, and he wants to win. And I think that holds true for me as well. So I think we're in alignment there because, like I said before, this game is about winning. I know that he wants to add to his legacy, and the only way we're going to accomplish that is to win a world championship.”

Team president Mark Murphy made it clear how important winning is, and how important it is that they win now. The expectations are going to be high and there isn't going to be any slack for LaFleur being a new head coach. He is going to have a short leash and if he doesn't win, the Packers will find someone who does.
