After seeing Randall Cobb walk via free agency this offseason and without adding any other real threats in the passing game, the Green Bay Packers are in need of another wide receiver.

That's why ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. feels that the Packers will select University of Mississippi wide receiver D.K. Metcalf with the 12th overall pick of the first round of the NFL Draft later this month.

“The Packers focused on improving their defense in free agency, and they could use their two first-round picks in this draft on offense,” wrote Kiper. “Metcalf has the potential to become Aaron Rodgers' No. 1 target.”

Metcalf is coming off of a sophomore campaign in which he played just seven games due to a neck injury, hauling in 26 receptions for 569 yards and five touchdowns.

The 21-year-old arrived at Mississippi in 2016, but appeared in just two contests, logging a couple of catches for 13 yards and a pair of scores before a foot injury ended his season and led to him redshirting.

As a result, Metcalf was considered a freshman in 2017, and in that season, he caught 39 passes for 646 yards while reaching the end zone seven times.

He obviously did not post fantastic numbers with the Rebels, but due to his combination of size (6-foot-4, 225 pounds) and athleticism, many feel that Metcalf has the potential to be a dominant receiver on the NFL level, with some even comparing him to Josh Gordon.

The Packers went just 6-9-1 and missed the playoffs last season, marking the first time since 2006 that Green Bay failed to qualify for the postseason in back-to-back years.
