The Green Bay Packers recently indicated that defensive tackle Mike Daniels could see a downtick in snaps in the 2019 NFL season. Regardless, that has not changed how the team feels about his overall talent.

Daniels has spent the offseason nursing a foot injury that ended his season early. According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery is still confident in his ability.

“He’s still a dominant player,” Montgomery said.

Daniels was a bit of a late-bloomer to start his career after barely making his first Pro Bowl in 2017. However, he has served as the anchor of this Packers' defense for quite some time now. He had been in the midst of another solid year in 2018 before he was ultimately placed on injured reserve after just 10 games. As a result, the team seems to be taking a cautious approach with his recovery moving forward.

Green Bay likely attributes his injury to the massive workload he had taken on last season. Daniels played a whopping 42 snaps per game and finished the 2018 campaign with 18 tackles and two sacks. Perhaps the Packers are hoping that to focus more on quality over quantity by scaling backs his snaps moving forward.

Of course, rumors have surfaced about Daniels' future in Green Bay. The 30-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, and the front office has since managed to shore up some depth around him this offseason. Regardless, the veteran will need to find a way to produce if he hopes to be rewarded with a lucrative, new deal next offseason.
