Aaron Rodgers will make his 2018 debut this Thursday when the Green Bay Packers host the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers at Lambeau Field in Week 2 of the preseason.  Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has already confirmed Rodgers’ return to action, though, how much time the quarterback will spend on the field remains uncertain, per Bill Huber of 247 Sports.

Obviously, at the forefront of your decision is obviously being smart with Aaron. But the combination of who he plays with, too, is part of that. There’s a lot of things you talk about. That’s why you wait until you get all the information to make those final decisions on play time.”

Nevertheless, it will be encouraging for Packers fans to see Rodgers take snaps under center in a live NFL game setup again. Rodgers played in only seven games last season, as he spent most of his time on the sidelines tending to an injured collarbone. His absence severely damaged the Packers’ chances of making it to the playoffs, with backup Brett Hundley playing inconsistently as Rodgers’ placeholder.

With Rodgers back, there will be an increased focus on the Packers’ offensive line and how the unit will fare in protecting the team’s franchise player.

Green Bay opened up its preseason campaign on a positive note, taking down the Tennessee Titans at home last week, 31-17. Newcomer DeShone Kizer, Tim Boyle, and Hundley rotated at quarterback in that game, but they will all see reduced playing time this Thursday with Rodgers suiting up.

Dating back to 2015, the Packers are 6-0 in their last six preseason games at home.
