Mike McCarthy and the Green Bay Packers have not been good this season. It has been a long year and one that appears will end for the second straight season without a playoff berth. Because of the recent struggles, rumors have begun flying about McCarthy's future as the head coach of the Packers.

According to a report from Rob Demovsky of ESPN, McCarthy is still focusing on the 2018 NFL season despite the rumors that he could lose his job. He also understands that the NFL is a business and that no job is guaranteed.

“I'm focused on what's in front of us. Every individual on the inside, particularly the football team, we have a 2018 commitment, and that's all I've ever focused on.”

“We set a standard here the past 12 years, and it's our responsibility to play to that standard. That's the way we approach it, but that's a blanket, general evaluation. There's obviously more that goes into that. But at the end of the day, there's so much that goes into each and every game throughout a seven-day period — obviously we're on a 10-day stretch here — and that's really where the energy has to focus.”

Following the Packers' 27-24 loss against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night, the team is 4-5-1. That record is going to make things extremely difficult to come back and make a playoff run.

The best that Green Bay can finish this season would be 10-5-1. That record would have a chance to get them into the playoffs, but it's certainly not a guarantee.

Aaron Rodgers and company have dealt with frustration all season. The talent on the roster is there, the team just hasn't been able to close out games. McCarthy deserves some of that blame.

Expect to hear a lot more about McCarthy's job status in Green Bay as the season moves forward. If the Packers do end up missing the playoffs, it would be shocking if they did not end up firing him.
