The Green Bay Packers want to put last year's 7-9 season way behind them. After nine straight trips to the playoffs, including one Super Bowl championship, it's time to start a new streak of excellence. Newly-acquired defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson will surely play a big part in the Packers' success next season.

Via a conference call with the Green Bay media on Thursday:

“I’m ready to get back to my dominant play,” Wilkerson said on Thursday. “I know what type of player I’m capable of being, and I’m just ready to do it at a new place, a new organization and a new group of guys. I’m just really excited about the things to come this year.

Joining the Packers, who continue to try to bolster their defense in order to help out superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy's offense, was a no-brainer for Wilkerson.

“Green Bay was the best fit for me,” Wilkerson said. “I got a good vibe with the coaches and the staff and felt like that was the best place for me.”

Under new Green Bay defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, who was with the New York Jets organization from 2009-2012, Wilkerson thinks he will be able to thrive again.

“That had a key part in it,” Wilkerson said of coach Pettine. “Being that we were together in New York for a little bit. Besides, he’s just a great guy you know and his resume speaks for itself with his coaching staff that he’s been with.”

In seven seasons with the Jets, Wilkerson racked up 404 tackles, 44.0 sacks, 28 pass deflections, and two interceptions in 105 games.
