The Green Bay Packers picked up Texas A&M tight end Jace Sternberger in the third round (75th pick overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft late last month, and they may have gotten the SEC's best tight end in the process.

Pro Football Focus ranked Sternberger as the best tight end in the conference in 2018, placing him ahead of Kentucky's C.J. Conrad and Alabama's Irv Smith Jr.

Conrad signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent and Smith was chosen by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round.

Sternberger is coming off of a terrific junior campaign in which he hauled in 48 receptions for 832 yards for a very impressive 17.3 yards per catch average. He also tallied 10 touchdown catches.

As far as collegiate production is concerned, that's really all there is to go off of for Sternberger, who originally began his NCAA career at Kansas in 2015 but played there for just two seasons before transferring to Texas A&M.

Due to NCAA transfer rules, Sternberger was not eligible to play in 2017.

While the 22-year-old will likely be behind Jimmy Graham on the Packers' depth chart this coming season, Green Bay has high hopes for him, and he may very well see some action during his rookie year.

The Packers went just 6-9-1 this past season and missed the playoffs, marking the first time since 2006 that the team failed to qualify for the postseason in back-to-back years. Green Bay fired long-time head coach Mike McCarthy late in the season and eventually replaced him with Matt LaFleur earlier this offseason.
