Pro Football Focus has released a list of players each team should target, and included on that list is Greg Olsen being an option for the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers have Jimmy Graham under contract for the 2020 season, but they can save $8 million if they cut him. Graham never became the player the Packers had hoped for when they signed him to a long-term deal. During the 2019 season, he caught 38 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns.

“Tight end Jimmy Graham never was the same player we saw with the Saints and Seahawks that he was with the Packers. In his two seasons in Green Bay, he posted sub-60.0 PFF grades, which were the two worst of his career. Cutting him saves $8 million next year, and that allows them to kick the tires on Greg Olsen. He hasn’t been the same, either, these past few years, but he was still top 10 in WAR among tight ends this past season.”

Olsen is an interesting idea, but the big question has to be would he be that big of an upgrade over Graham. Olsen played in 14 games last season, catching 52 passes for 597 yards and two touchdowns.

When next season kicks off, Olsen will be 35 years old and his body has been through a lot. He is still deciding if he even wants to continue playing, and if the team did bring in Olsen, they probably would want to have a backup plan in case he goes down with an injury that keeps him out a few weeks or even the full season.
