When the Green Bay Packers selected Michigan linebacker Rashan Gary with the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, many around the league saw it as a reach thanks to the lack of production the player had during his collegiate career. For Gary, though, he considers the pick destiny.

Speaking on Tuesday, Gary said that being in Green Bay was “meant to be,” and it’s a sentiment that he’s been sharing throughout the week.

From the looks of it, Gary is extremely happy to be a Packer, and the Packers are hoping that Gary’s joy translates to dominance on the football field.

After coming out of high school as the top football prospect, Gary posted just nine-and-a-half sacks throughout his career at Michigan.

Despite the lack of production, Gary was still named first-team All-Big 10 twice, and the questions on his ability didn’t stop him from absolutely dominating at the NFL combine.

During his workouts, Gary posted a 4.58 40-yard dash, 38-inch vertical leap, and performed 26 bench press reps despite the questions lingering on his injured shoulder. While many seem to think he has a torn labrum, Gary denies the rumors, and says that he’ll be ready to play from the start.

With the Packers rookie mini-camp coming in just a week, it’ll be the first time the team gets to see how Gary operates in an NFL setting, and Gary and the Packers are likely hoping that things are meant to be great, as the team is looking for major production from its newly bolstered defensive line.
