The Green Bay Packers have placed running back Aaron Jones on the injured reserve list as a result of a sprained MCL he suffered during his team's loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon, according to the team.

Jones exited the game against the Bears after carrying the ball four times for eight years.

The 24-year-old had a solid sophomore campaign, rushing for 728 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging a league-best 5.5 yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 26 receptions for 206 yards and a touchdown.

Jones, who played his collegiate football at UTEP, was originally selected by the Packers in the fifth round (182nd pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He was limited to 12 games during his rookie season due to the same sprained MCL injury he sustained this past weekend, finishing with 448 yards and four scores and an identical 5.5 yards per attempt average.

After its loss to Chicago, Green Bay fell to 5-8-1 and was eliminated from playoff contention. This marks the first time the Packers will miss the postseason in back-to-back years since 2006. Last year, Green Bay won just seven games, largely due to the fact that quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed most of the year with a broken collarbone.

Prior to failing to qualify for the playoffs a year ago, the Packers had made eight straight trips to the postseason, including a Super Bowl victory during the 2010-11 campaign.

Green Bay will head on the road to take on the New York Jets next weekend before coming home to host the Detroit Lions on the final game of the regular season.
