The Green Bay Packers will have a new-look offense in 2019 with rookie head coach Matt LaFleur deploying his offensive system. Aaron Rodgers understands that there could be a “slow start” for the offense due to the new system in place.

“We have to go out and execute it and be on the same page,” Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “I don’t expect any bumps in the road, just a couple little pebbles we have to drive over.”

“I think the key for us is there’s going to for sure be situations that come up with the new play-caller and quarterback relationship, where we’re going to have to work through some things to get on the same page,” Rodgers said of his relationship with LaFleur. “But we’ve had a lot of great conversations.”

On paper, Green Bay has a plethora of weapons surrounding Rodgers in Davante Adams, Aaron Jones, and multiple young receivers. Rodgers is entering his 15th season in the NFL but this will be the first season that he isn't playing in an offense that is called by Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy was fired by the team before the end of the 2018 season after spending 13 years with the organization. Then, earlier this offseason, the Packers decided to replace him with a younger offensive-minded coach in LaFleur.

Last season, LaFleur was the Tennessee Titans' offensive coordinator where he showed his tendency to run the football. This year, Green Bay is expected to utilize Jones more in the backfield to relieve some pressure off of Rodgers.

So far in the preseason, Rodgers has yet to take any snaps in the new offense with the starters. Last week, LaFleur planned on giving the veteran quarterback some reps in the offense. However, the conditions of the field caused the head coach to play it cautious with his quarterback.

The Packers have missed the playoffs in the past two seasons, but they are hoping that their new offensive system works seamlessly to put them in position for a playoff berth in 2019.
