Aaron Rodgers has long been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but his 2018 season didn’t live up to the expectations that many had for him. Despite some gaudy numbers, Rodgers played some of his worst football last year, albeit on an injured leg. However, that hasn’t stopped places from still ranking him amongst the NFL’s best.

Recently, Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News ranked all 32 quarterbacks in the league, and Rodgers came in at the No. 2 position. The only quarterback above him, perhaps unsurprisingly, was Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaking to why Rodgers was named the second-best quarterback, Iyer credited the new offense that Green Bay is set to have.

“Rodgers is due for a durable, MVP-like season, and he will feel rejuvenated with new, offensive-minded coach in Matt LaFleur letting him loose with a versatile receiving corps. LaFleur also will use Green Bay's strengths up front and in the backfield to full advantage.”

Although Rodgers had a somewhat down year for what we think of him, he still finished with relatively good stats. By the end of the 2018 season, Rodgers had recorded 4,442 yards, 25 touchdowns, two interceptions, and a passer rating of 97.2.

Despite that, however, the Packers finished with a disappointing 6-9-1 record and missed out on the playoffs for the second year in a row. With new head coach Matt LaFleur leading the team, and a new offense set to debut, it wouldn’t be too shocking to see Rodgers quickly come back to his typical, MVP-esque levels that we’re used to seeing from him.
