The Green Bay Packers are a popular pick to be one of the top teams in the league in most years, and this year is no different. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is currently the man to beat in terms of the 2018 NFL MVP award. And according to CBS lead analyst Tony Romo, the Packers are also the team to beat come playoff time.

“I think the Packers probably got better more than any team I saw this offseason,” Romo said, via WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee. “It's early and injuries happen, but right now, they're right at the top for me as far as a team you wouldn't want to see in the playoffs.”

Romo specifically points to tight end Jimmy Graham, whom the Packers signed in free agency, as a massive game-changer who could do a lot of damage alongside Rodgers.

“The Jimmy Graham thing is a big deal, people don't understand,” Romo explained. “You're going to see old school Jimmy Graham. You pair him with Aaron Rodgers, you're going to see a little bit of a different animal. In the red zone, that will be almost unstoppable. If the secondary is a little bit better, I think they're the team to beat this year.”

The Packers missed the playoffs last season for the first time in eight years as Rodgers missed most of the season with a broken collarbone. When healthy, though, he can almost singlehandedly turn the Packers into contenders.

However, even with a healthy Rodgers, Green Bay hasn’t had much success in the postseason in recent years, in part due to their uneven defense. But they have brought in new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine and beefed up their cornerback depth this offseason to improve on that side of the ball.

The NFL season is long and unpredictable, but with a healthy Rodgers and an improved defense, the Packers could still prove Romo right and make a lot of noise this season.
