Rashan Gary was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. It was a move that some fans love due to his untapped potential, but for the most part the fans were not happy with the selection.
Part of their frustration has to do with the lack of production that Gary had at Michigan. Others don't think that he has the motor or work ethic to become a star at the NFL level. Even more fans simply aren't a fan of the Packers not focusing on bringing in more weapons for Aaron Rodgers after focusing a lot of money in free agency on defense.
No matter what the reasons were, there were a ton of great reactions to the selection. Let's go ahead and take a look at some of them.
First of all, we couldn't start anywhere else but to see the reaction that Gary gave himself after finding out that Green Bay would be drafting him with their first pick of the first round.
Rashan Gary's draft reaction was priceless 🙏

That kind of emotion bodes well for his future in Green Bay. It was clear that the Packers taking him this early in the draft meant a lot to him.
Now, it's time to take a look at what some fans and analysts are saying about the selection.
Rashan Gary….BUST

As a Bears fan, I fully support the Packers taking Rashan Gary at 12.

If there is a group that can get the most out of Rashan Gary I believe that the group would look exactly like Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark, Za’Darius Smith, & Preston Smith. A group of true professesionals that will motivate him and show him how to put the work in.

With the 12th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the #Packers select Rashan Gary, DE, Michigan.

I haven’t seen Rashan Gary cry like that since he lost 62-39.

I do NOT love Rashan Gary's motor. Never seemed to care enough. Not enough fire. Shaky pick by Pack.

I would want no part of Rashan Gary in the top half of the first round.
If you're that physically gifted and couldn't dominate in the Big 10, that's a huge issue.
The scheme explanation doesn't wash.

Green Bay may end up being very happy with their selection, but the response from the fans and media are completely split. He certainly has the body and raw talent to become a major pass rushing threat in the future, but he has to put in the work, which has been the question surrounding him.
Only time will tell, but Gary is now a member of the Packers and they have invested a lot into him already.
