Late on Tuesday night, the NFL world was taken by storm with the Kansas City Chiefs' trade of quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins for cornerback Kendall Fuller and a third-round pick. On Wednesday, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers shared his take on the deal.

From an interview shown on ESPN's 6 p.m. SportsCenter:

“I'm happy for Alex. Alex and I were drafted in the same year. A lot of talk about us being not ready to play, or would've been picked behind the guys in '06 draft. Here we are, both of us going into our 14th season… We're going to keep hanging on and see if we can get to 40.”

Rodgers added that he's delighted Smith landed with a team eager to give him a long-term contract, which reportedly has been agreed to in principle to keep Smith in the nation's capital for the next five seasons.

Players from around the league reacted to the deal on Twitter, including Smith's Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce, who posted a tribute to the signal caller that he's spent his entire NFL career with.

With Smith settling in with the Redskins, the team is finally letting quarterback Kirk Cousins walk in free agency after applying the franchise tag to him the last two years. A number of possible destinations have been thrown around in rumors, headlined by the Denver Broncos and New York Jets.

Rodgers' Packers are scheduled to face Smith's Redskins in Washington this season, but the actual date of the game won't be announced until the league releases the entire 2018 schedule.
