There's no Aaron Rodgers currently behind center for the Green Bay Packers. Due to that, previously unknown gunslinger Joe Callahan is the backup for the storied National Football League franchise.
With that comes a rather obvious question. Who in the heck is Joe Callahan?
Well, according to him, he's the man ready to play if his number is called.
“You know, I feel good. It’s my second year in the offense, and the past couple weeks I’ve really been in tune with the game plan,” Callahan said, via Jason Wilde. “If anything were to happen, I’m ready to go. I’m preparing like I’m one play away.”
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is a pretty big fan of the quarterback.
“If you’d have seen the team drills [the other] day, he had three big-time go-route balls — deep, deep balls,” McCarthy said. “Clearly I think Joe’s deep ball has gotten a lot better throughout the year. He’s comfortable running the offense, does a great job running the opponent stuff, so he’s definitely progressed.”
None of this answers who in the heck Joe Callahan happens to be, but in that same story it is revealed he has a billion nicknames. Here they are:
- “Big Tom Callahan’s Son” (Tommy Boy).
- “Bo” (after the quarterback whose draft stock falls in Draft Day).
- “Francis” (his actual first name and possible Bill Murray reference).
- “Joseph-Joseph” (due to confusion by one of the assistant coaches when Callahan said his middle name is Joseph).
Listen, none of this answers who he is, but he just became my new favorite NFL player.
