Ahead of Green Bay Packers training camp, star quarterback Aaron Rodgers stated that he's not giving any thought to his contract status with the franchise. The former Super Bowl MVP is signed for the next two seasons, but with more lucrative extensions (at least on an annual basis) coming to the likes of Jimmy Garoppolo and Matt Ryan, it's expected that he'll receive an extension soon.

Yet, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, Rodgers and the Packers are yet to make much progress toward that.

Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, no meaningful progress has been made recently between Rodgers and the Packers on a contract extension.

Rodgers' base salary is $19.8 million this year and $20 million in 2019, which is very affordable compared to other quarterback contracts around the league given that he's widely considered, alongside Tom Brady and Drew Brees, as the best signal-caller in the NFL. He's currently the tenth-highest paid QB in the league in annual pay

It was previously reported that Rodgers wanted player options in a possible extension, something the Packers aren't likely inclined to give him. As Florio notes, Green Bay could choose to use on the franchise tag on the Cal product in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, meaning they'll owe him $99.2 million over the next four seasons as Rodgers nears 39 years of age.

If Rodgers truly isn't worried about an extension, there's no reason for the Packers to make a move as QB contracts continue to blow up around the NFL. Still, president and CEO Mark Murphy has stated that the franchise is looking to extend Rodgers.
