Rumors are swirling that Mike McCarthy could be relieved of his duties after the season is over. Rumors are also circulating about who could be hired to be the next head coach of the Green Bay Packers.

A popular candidate the last few years for head coaching jobs has been New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, and during an appearance on 98.5, The Sports Hub's “Toucher & Rich” Albert Breer said he thinks that is a guy the Packers will go after.

Two years ago, Josh McDaniels was in the (San Francisco 49ers') coaching search until the very end,” Breer said via NBC Sports. “And one of the things the Niners were looking at was pairing different people together. When Josh McDaniels was in the running for that Niners job … the guy who at the time had emerged as the front-runner for the general manager job … and who had blown the Niners away was a Packers personnel man named Brian Gutekunst, who now is the (Packers') general manager. So, they've done their homework on each other.”

McDaniels was offered the Indianapolis Colts job last year, and all signs pointed to him taking it, but at the last minute, he decided to decline the offer and go back to the Patriots.

That could be a concern for teams looking for a head coach this offseason, but he doesn't think that McDaniels would turn down the Packers job, because of Aaron Rodgers.

You've got Aaron Rodgers at 35 years old, and you've got this nice, long runway to find the next (quarterback), too,” Breer said. “(Rodgers) is not close to being done. If I'm (McDaniels), I've got Aaron Rodgers to compete with for the next four or five years, and I've got a long runway to find the next guy, too, which I think is a real positive.”

McDaniels is the highest paid coordinator in the league, but turning down the chance to work with Rodgers would have to be tough.
