The Green Bay Packers are taking out an insurance policy. Amid wide receiver Davante Adams (turf toe) and Geronimo Allison (chest/head) battling injuries, the team is signing veteran wide-out Ryan Grant, according to Field Yates of ESPN. In a corresponding move, they waived running back Tra Carson.

Grant, 28, played two games with the Oakland Raiders at the beginning of the 2019 season, before they released him. In doing so, he caught four Derek Carr-thrown passes for 14 yards. Coincidentally, the Packers will face the Raiders on Sunday, at home.

Before Oakland, Grant played with the Indianapolis Colts for one season. He started 10 games out of 15 for Indy, reeling in 35 receptions for 334 yards and a touchdown in the process.

Grant started his career with the Washington Redskins after they took him in the fifth round of the 2014 draft out of Tulane. In four seasons in Washington, the receiver compiled 84 receptions for 985 yards and six touchdowns. His best statistical season came in 2017 when he brought in 45 catches for 573 yards and four touchdowns.

Grant joins the injured Adams and Allison and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Jake Kumerow, Darrius Shepherd and Allen Lazard in a young receiving room in Green Bay.

With the release of Carson, the Packers have three running backs on the roster, in Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams and Dexter Williams. Carson turned six rush attempts into 14 yards and a touchdown in his two games on the active roster. If he clears waivers he will be eligible to return to the practice squad or 53-man roster.
