The Green Bay Packers have a need at the tight end position this offseason after making the move to release veteran tight end Jimmy Graham prior to the start of NFL free agency. It was a move that everyone expected after another sub-par season from Graham, but a new addition needs to be made.

Many thought the Packers had a good shot to sign Austin Hooper, but he ended up signing with the Cleveland Browns soon after the free agency negotiating window opened. Now, the Packers are trying to find other options. Among those other options are veteran tight end Delanie Walker and Indianapolis Colts' free agent Eric Ebron.

Ebron has been a topic of discussion since Wednesday evening when he took to Twitter to hint at interest in joining the Packers. He seems to be very intrigued by the possibility of playing alongside Aaron Rodgers. Take a look at his tweet for yourself:

Last season with the Colts, Ebron had a very disappointing year after his breakout season in 2018. He caught just 31 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns. Back in 2018, he caught 66 passes for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Despite the down season in 2019, the Packers should absolutely have interest in signing Ebron. He could be the missing piece the Matt LaFleur offense needs. If the price is right, the Packers should absolutely look to bring him on board.

Let's take a look at why signing Ebron might be exactly what the Packers need this offseason in free agency.

3. The Packers Need A Big And Athletic Tight End

The entire point of signing Graham a couple years back was to bring in a big and athletic target for Rodgers. Unfortunately, Graham was starting to slow down because of age. They could look to do the same thing with Ebron.

At just 26 years old, Ebron is in the prime of his career. Age would not be a factor for at least three or four years. Green Bay could have him for a full four-year contract before he starts slowing down in any way, shape, or form.

Standing in at 6-foot-4 and 253 pounds, Ebron would be the big tight end that Rodgers likes to work with. His ability to be a vertical threat would fit nicely with what the Packers want to do offensively. This seems like a match made in heaven from a physical standpoint.

2. Aaron Rodgers Needs Weapons

This point is fairly obvious. Davante Adams was the only legitimate weapon that Rodgers had to work with last season. Allen Lazard ended up showing promise as the No. 2 wide receiver, but ideally he would be No. 3 or No. 4 on the depth chart in 2020.

Graham was nothing close to a weapon for Rodgers, as he caught just 38 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns in 2019. Those numbers aren't going to get the job done. Ebron is a wide receiver in a tight end's body.

That certainly isn't to say that he would get back to the numbers that he put up in 2018. However, with an elite quarterback and in an offense that will utilize him often each and every week, Ebron could very well find himself back in the Pro Bowl.

1. There Is A Reason For His Lack Of Production In 2019

Some teams are going to be scared away by the dip of production from Ebron in 2019. While a dip in production is always concerning, there are obvious reasons for Ebron struggling last season with the Colts.

First and foremost, Jack Doyle returned to the field from injury. Doyle may not be a household name, but he is an above average pass-catching tight end.

The most obvious reason for Ebron's lack of production was a change of quarterbacks. He had excellent chemistry with Andrew Luck, but the Colts saw their franchise quarterback make a shocking decision to retire just before the start of the season. Jacoby Brissett and Ebron were never on the same page.

A change of quarterbacks can mess with any wide receiver or tight end. The Packers should not be scared off by his lower numbers and should instead look at the potential of a Rodgers and Ebron duo.
