San Diego Padres fans rejoice. Superstar shortstop Ferenando Tatis Jr. was activated off the Injured List and will be in tonight's lineup for a very crucial series.

The 22-year-old Padres shortstop hurt himself in what looked like a catastrophic-looking left shoulder injury back on April 5th. The initial thought was that it wasn't serious although it looked like Tatis Jr. was in a boatload of pain.

Tatis Jr. is coming off an incredible 2020 campaign in which he finished fourth in the NL MVP balloting. This past offseason, Tatis signed a $340 million contract extension over 14 years, one of the longest and richest contracts in MLB history.

The Padres shortstop will start in his usual two-hole in the lineup as they open up a series against their NL West rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park. Even though it's very early in the season, the Padres are 2.5 games back of the Dodgers with a record of 9-5. These games between the two teams is always a good measuring stick, to see where each team is at. In the nine games that Tatis Jr. missed for the Padres, the team went 6-3.

In just five games this season, Tatis Jr. was struggling with just one home run and a .167 batting average. The hope is that the Padres shortstop took the time to rest up and that he will be ready to get back to his 2020 version in no time. The Padres need him to be healthy and good come playoff time, so if the doctors gave him the green light then the expectation is that he shouldn't worry about re-injuring it.
