After a couple of weeks when multiple National League players worked to add to their NL MVP resumes, San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. made clear on Sunday that he is the favorite for this award.

After missing time due to a shoulder injury, Tatis was reinstated from the injured list and placed out in right field for the Padres' series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Although many watched just to see how Tatis would perform in his first career start in right field, he attracted the top headlines in baseball following yet another MVP-like performance at the plate.

The Padres slugger showed in the third inning that his recent shoulder injury will not hinder his play right out of the gate; he launched a 416-foot home run that carried over the left-field wall in a hurry thanks to its 105.0 mph exit velocity.

Two innings later, Tatis notched the fifth multi-home run game of his season with a solo shot off Zac Gallen.

Tatis helped the Padres bounce back from being no-hit on Saturday as he recorded four hits and four RBI en route to an 8-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

The superstar talent has continued to bolster his National League MVP Award resume, as he still leads the NL in home runs with 33. More so, he currently holds a formidable line of .300/.379/.675 over the ongoing season.

While the likes of Bryce Harper and Trea Turner have begun to shine as of late, Tatis is well showing that he is still the clear frontrunner for the 2021 NL MVP Award.
