Baker Mayfield was recently traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Carolina Panthers. And in a circumstance that almost seems scripted, Mayfield and Carolina will face Cleveland in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season. Seeing the QB take on his former team will be must-watch football without question.

Mayfield commented on the looming matchup with the Browns, per Ben Axelrod.

“I'm not going to sit here and be a robot and tell you that's not one I've marked on the calendar already,” Mayfield said. “One, that's not who I am. To me, it's about winning games. Whoever we have marked on the schedule, I'm going to try to win. Obviously, this one has a little more history and personal meaning.”

Baker Mayfield originally requested a trade after the Browns acquired controversial QB Deshaun Watson. But rumors of a lengthy suspension for Watson led to whisperings of a Browns reunion with Mayfield. However, those whispers quickly died out once Mayfield was dealt to the Panthers.

Mayfield was far from perfect during his time Cleveland. But he did lead the Browns to the postseason in 2020. In fact, the 2020 Browns' performance was one of the best in recent memory. But the QB ultimately felt disrespected by the team's decision to pursue a different QB on the trade market leading to the fallout.

Baker Mayfield is the type of player who always leaves it all on the field. We should expect an extremely gritty performance from him in Week 1 as he looks to defeat his former team.
